Grid Space Shooter (XBLIG, 2013)

Grid Space Shooter
Developed by Meh Games
Released for XBLIG (1/2013)

Grid Space Shooter is another twin-stick shooter indie title that was probably overlooked due to its generic name and here we'll take a quick look at the trial for the game. The graphical presentation is heavily inspired by Geometry Wars to the extent that there's not really much original about the way the game looks. If you can get over the underwhelming first-impressions, there is a pretty decent twin-stick shooter looming underneath. The controls are tight and responsive. The game does do a few things in the gameplay department to differentiate it from other twin-stick shooters, such as having an arcade style level format, special weapons, shields allowing you to take a few hits before dying and some pretty nice weapon power-ups. The enemies come on screen from the sides with arrows warning beforehand so no enemies spawning right on top of you in this game. You'll also need to either avoid or destroy the meteors flying about while battling the enemies. Unfortunately the trial only let me play long enough to clear two stages before telling me I needed to purchase the game. Overall, I enjoyed the time I spent with the trial for Grid Space Shooter. It definitely plays a lot better than it looks and I would recommend it to twin-stick shooter fans!

Final Verdict: Need more twin-stick shooters in your life? Grid Space Shooter might be for you!
