360 Mega Pack HD Remix (XBLIG, 2010)

360 Mega Pack HD Remix is an indie game that for whatever reason I had on my hard drive already so I figured I'd take a quick look at it. This is one of those titles that promises eleven "games & apps" in one program. At the main screen you can select between Gravity Dash, Rumble Lounge, Twin Stick Shooter, Fortuitous Fortune Cookie, Super Button Mashing Bros, Fantastic Flashlight, Arrow Panic, Ultra Clock, Masters of Memory, Omega Calculator and Ping. You can easily tell which ones are the games by the Atari 2600 inspired mock-up covers. There's obviously some filler in here. Rumble Lounge just vibrates your controller and is a real battery waster. Fortune Cookie is self-explanatory, Fantastic Flashlight puts colors on your screen and clock/calculator are what they claim to be. I can't really see anybody getting any use out of any of these "apps," so let's move on to the games...

Gravity Dash has twenty-five levels and a level editor, and its obviously where most of the developers time was spent as it actually feels like a game. You play as a square that's constantly moving to the right and must jump or flip gravity to avoid obstacles. It plays alright and gets challenging rather quickly, but it's not as good as the Impossible Game which it imitates in both looks and gameplay. The level editor is a neat addition though. Next there is Twin Stick Shooter, which offers support for up to four players. While the multiplayer support is a nice addition, this is possibly the most generic twin-stick shooter I've ever played. You play as a red square shooting at white squares and it really shows that there was not a whole lot of effort put into this title. Super Button Mashing Bros is exactly what it claims to be. You have a time limit to mash the A button a certain number of times, with a very unappealing picture of a sword going in and out of a stone. This was definitely a tough one to play so let's move on to the next one, which is Arrow Panic. Arrow Panic requires two players to start and forgive me but I lack the motivation to grab a second remote and sync it up to play this with myself so we'll just continue on. Judging by the previous entries in this series, I can safely assume I'm not missing out on anything good, or even mediocre for that matter!

Just two more games to go, next up is Masters of Memory. This one is basically like the old game Simon, where you must memorize the order that the buttons flash in. It's a competent version of the classic game, with the buttons color coded to the Xbox remote. The final game included is Ping, which is just a clone of Pong. 360 Mega Pack HD Remix has a couple of games in it that aren't terrible, but there's just a lack of originality about it that really drags it down. The apps were absolutely pointless and just thrown in for the sake of saying that the title has more in it.

Final Verdict: Unless you just absolutely must have a digital version of Simon, I can safely say that you can skip 360 Mega Pack HD Remix. Any of the games that are even decent on it have been done better elsewhere.
