The Creators Program (formerly known as the Creator's Collection) storefront on the Xbox One hasn't really made much noise (most Xbox users probably don't even know it exists), and with just a quick browse through the titles available it's easy to see why. For the most part, the games look like low-end mobile games with very simple game-play. So among the many uninteresting titles on the service, somehow Solitaire HD stands out a bit. I've always enjoyed a good game of solitaire every now and then, so let's take a look and see how this version plays.
Solitaire HD packs quite a few setting options for a simple card game. You have the choice of several different backgrounds and card decks to change up the graphic presentation. The numbered side of the cards can be customized as well. There is an option to select between one and three-card draw. Then you have your standard options such as score type (standard, vegas or none) and difficulty select. At the main menu there's also a statistics section that keeps track of how many games you've won, times and scores. Picking up and moving the cards around isn't as intuitive as when using a mouse on the PC, but it works well enough here in this game.
The biggest downside of Solitaire HD is that it isn't free. There is a free trial for the game that allows you to play 20 games but after that you'll need to buy the full version of the game. Maybe I'm just spoiled from playing Solitaire on computer over the years, which Microsoft has always been nice enough to include built into Windows for free! While I enjoyed the game and would say that Solitaire HD does play a decent game of cards, it's just not something I can pay for without feeling stupid afterwards because I could just go play it on Windows for free. If you somehow can't access the free version of this game through your phone or Windows, or even if you just really want to play solitaire on your gaming console, then Solitaire HD is a decent title.
Final Verdict: Solitaire HD plays a decent game of cards and has a good number of settings. If you enjoy solitaire, the free trial is fun but it's hard to recommend paying cash for the full game when there are so many free solitaire options out there.
