Sibroids
Developed by Bush Consulting
Released for Xbox One (12/2017)
Sibroids description in the storefront is "arcade-style scrolling shooter-game." That's the entire game description provided by the developer and it really doesn't really tell us much about what the game actually is. At a glance of the screenshot provided, the game looked like it was going to play similar to the arcade classic Asteroids. To my disappointment after playing Sibroids I discovered that this game is actually far inferior to that early '80's classic and also nowhere near as fun to play.
Sibroids offers support for up to four-players local, which can be toggled at the initial menu. The menus look and feel like something out of Windows, which I understand that's where the game was developed but some time could have been invested to make the menus a bit more console controller-friendly. In addition to selecting the number of players, there are also several other options you can tweak, such as the frequency of the asteroids and the speed of the player ships. While having all of these options is nice, the game itself is unfortunately quite dull. The ship you pilot can only shoot forward. The star background is incredibly dull & uninspired. The asteroids are just a static image with no rotation effects. Your ship's projectile is a tiny yellow line that looks and feels incredibly puny. There is also a secondary fire that will take down the rocks faster but will not fire as frequently as your default gun and like the main gun, feels very underwhelming. The object of the game is to score the most points by shooting the most asteroids.
Overall I found this game to be completely uninspired and off the top of my head I can think of 20+ shooters that were released on the 360's XBLIG service that blow this one away. This game definitely feels like a programmer's first attempt at making a game and they probably should've held off releasing this one to the public until they've developed their skills a bit further. The developer, credited as Bush Consulting, didn't even take the time to upload a title graphic for the marketplace, definitely indicative of the amount of effort put into the game. There is it at least one positive thing to say about Sibroids in the fact that it was free.
Final Verdict: Sibroids is an uninspired shooter where you blast rocks. I'd suggest skipping this one and just get Asteroids & Deluxe for your retro rock-blasting action.
