Gun-Pile is a horizontal shoot 'em up that was created using Unity, released for the PC and Xbox One in 2017. This is a caravan shooter, meaning you have two minutes to rack up as big of a score as possible. Gun-Pile has a unique weapon system, with five or so different weapon types that are scattered all across the playfield. You're allowed to stack a certain amount of weaponry on top of your ship, which will mix and match differently depending on the strength of the weapon. For instance, you can have up to six of the standard laser stacked up or you can have three of the hyper laser. It's an interesting system and makes every playthrough a bit different.
The enemies are nondescript things that are basically just there to be destroyed, though if they bump your ship your power-ups will all fall off, forcing you to lose point potential while gathering your weaponry back up. Gun-Pile sports some very basic graphics, but everything looks good enough and the game runs without any hiccups. The game does save local high scores and will note the weapon loadout used in that run, but online leaderboards definitely would have been nice. Still, Gun-Pile is among the better free titles on offer in the early times of the Creators Collection.
Final Verdict: Gun-Pile is a fun, simple caravan shoot'em up where you stack up a pile of weapons and shoot stuff for a few minutes. Good fun in quick bursts!
