Solar 2 is a sequel to the highly-acclaimed original that adds quite a bit to the mix. For starters, you no longer start off as a planet. You are a tiny asteroid, and must first turn into a small planet by absorbing other asteroids, which is accomplished by smashing into them. Once you've become a small planet you're now able to pull asteroids into your orbit, which you are then allowed to absorb them which will add toward your total mass. If you keep absorbing mass you'll eventually transform into a living planet, and the people will provide you with shields and turrets for defense against hostiles. As you continue on you'll eventually become a small star, at which point you'll be able to have planets orbit around you. From there you'll work your way up to medium and then large star, eventually allowing you to have yourself a nice star system orbiting your star. If you can continue expanding you can eventually evolve into a black hole, sucking up anything smaller than you, including other black holes! If you continue to grow your black hole, you can eventually trigger a big bang which will start you over as an asteroid. While Solar 2 does allow the player to just mess around and do whatever they want, similar to sandbox mode from the original game, there are also missions scattered about given to you by a mysterious presence. The missions are clearly marked on your HUD, making them easy to locate. The missions have some nice variation and the difficulty will ramp up according to your status (asteroid, planet or star). If you manage to complete all the missions you'll get to experience the final encounter. Solar 2 is an incredibly ambitious title that has a lot of depth under its simplistic interface and controls. For sci-fi fans this one's a no-brainer, get this game!
Final Verdict: Solar 2 is a unique, ambitious space title that deserves a look from every gamer, but sci-fi fans will absolutely love it!
