Boxing.free is another game that was originally released for mobile devices and eventually wound up getting a port to the Xbox One via the Creator's Collection. This market is full of mobile games that nobody ever asked for to be ported over to consoles, and Boxing.free fits that description to a tee.
The game was free, so it does at least live up to its title of Boxing.free. The game being free comes at a cost however, and as soon as you load the game up you'll notice that you're bombarded with ads on the sides and top of the screen. These annoying advertisements take up a nice chunk of the screen. The actual game screen is featured in the center. I had a difficult time even figuring out how to start the game, since the game tries to trick you into clicking on the ads at first. In order to play, you must first highlight the game screen, press A so the cursor appears on it and then highlight the play button. Right from the get-go Boxing.free is not a good experience.
Boxing.free is, of course, a boxing game. Having been a phone game initially, the controls were created with a touch screen in mind. You'll only be using the A button and the stick to move around the cursor. At the bottom of the screen there is a button you can press that will block. In order to strike at your opponent, you'll have to move the cursor up towards your opponent and tap A. This might have been acceptable on a touch-screen, where you can move back and forth quickly, but on the home screen moving a cursor with a controller it's too clunky and as a result I found myself getting beat down by my opponent. It wasn't really frustrating, in fact it was actually quite satisfying as it gave me a reason to turn the game off and move on to something else.
Just take one look at developer SkyLine Gamez official website (link below) and you can get an idea of the amount of effort put into this game. The site features a box with arrows pointing down which, when clicked, shoots you down to the bottom of the page simply advising you to get games on your mobile phone. No list of games or way to contact the developers. Boxing.free is an abysmal effort and consider yourself lucky you read this review and avoided it. You saved yourself some precious time.
Final Verdict: Boxing.free is a sports title that shows the downside with the Creators Program. It's yet another lame mobile game that was sloppily ported the Xbox One that's even worse on this format than it was on the phone.
