An Xbox Overview Feature
The Story
River City Ransom is a classic beat 'em up that mixes RPG elements and with the recent release for Xbox One I've been getting back into this one a bit. The game allows you to explore and for those who haven't played before, it's easy to get stuck. The key to getting to the evil Simon is to beat all of the bosses until you eventually work your way up to him. River City Ransom isn't quite as straightforward as just beat everybody up and proceed to the right like most beat 'em ups, and getting to the end is going to require a little backtracking in order to find certain bosses. It should go without saying that these guys get tougher as you progress, so make sure to spend some time grinding for cash and leveling up your character. Benny and Clyde are always favorites for this, since boss characters drop more money when beat and these 2 will respawn each time you enter the area. They're also conveniently located twice within the game, making it so you won't have to travel terribly far to get to them. Now, onto the bosses....
Moose can be found on the 3rd screen in Sticksville. After you beat up all the punks in this area, Moose will show up to fight you.
Benny and Clyde can be found at the 2nd screen at the Capitol Ave Bridge. After speaking with Roxy, head North and you'll find these 2 waiting for you.
You'll find Rocko on the 2nd screen in the WSL Co. Warehouse. Beat up all the thugs and he'll show up. The key to jumping up onto the boxes is to get in front on of them and jump straight up rather than jumping on them from the side.
To find Blade, you'll have to backtrack a bit to Sherman Park. The bosses are getting a bit tougher at this point, so if you haven't already you might want to spend some time grinding to level up your stats.
Turk can be found on the 3rd screen of the Armstrong Thru-Way. He's tough, so try to attack quick and keep your distance when necessary.
Mojo can be found Downtown, which is the screen right after you defeat Turk. This dude will kick your butt if you give him the chance, so attack him fast and don't let him retaliate!
Thor is in the Vacant 3rd Wheel Factory. You can use the ledge to your advantage since the enemies remain still when not on the same level as you. One of the easier fights in the game since you can just cheese this one.
Benny and Clyde are out for revenge after you whooped them earlier at the bridge. This time you'll find them at the Burb Village. These guys are always a nice way to farm money, plus there's a spa conveniently located right next to the fight if you need health.
You'll find Ivan guarding the entrance at River City High. Once you beat him down you'll gain access to the school.
Otis will be in the gym at River City High. After beating him, jump up onto the bars, then up onto the basketball hook and once more to the catwalk, where you'll find the entrance to the next area on the left.
After beating the enemies in the 2nd hallway of River City High, Tex will pop-up. He can be a pain if he assaults you with the stick so make sure you don't give him the chance.
Randy and Andy, aka the Dragon Twins, will be your toughest fight yet and are found on the next floor up after beating Tex. Clobber them while they're still talking noise or else they will pummel you, pick you up and throw you around, likely until your death. This was always the most memorable fight, due to the challenge and the amazing Double Dragon music that accompanies the action.
Head out onto the roof of River City High for the final encounter with Simon, aka Slick. If you made it past the Dragon Twins, this guy shouldn't pose much of a threat. Beat him down and don't give him a chance to attack and you'll have Cyndi rescued in no time so she can finish her shopping.
