MegaCity (XBLIG, 2012)

MegaCity
Developed by ColePowered
Released for XBLIG (4/2012)
Also on Android & iOS

MegaCity is a puzzle game that takes a bit of inspiration from SimCity and mixes it with some puzzle elements to create a fun little time-waster. You have a queue on the left that shows what type of building you need to place while the rest of the screen is populated by empty lots you can place the property on. Certain types of buildings, like landfills, prisons or factories, will have a negative effect on the lots surrounding it and thus you want to avoid placing them close to residential areas if possible. There are also plots that will boost the value of the surrounding lots, such as police & fire stations, libraries and hospitals. In order to clear a column you'll need to meet a specific property value, shown at the top right of the screen. Each column also must contain at least one house or apartment. You lay down properties until you are unable to continue clearing columns out. Though there have been many puzzles games somewhat similar, the city-laying mechanic gives MegaCity a unique feel. The game requires a good amount of planning ahead mixed with a bit of luck, which blends nicely for an enjoyable time, plus it retailed for only a buck!

MegaCity was originally released for iPhone/iOS in August 2011. The developer ported the game over to XBLIG in April 2012 and Android in November 2012.  The developer, ColePowered, also released two other games for XBLIG: Planet Wars and Six O'Clock High.

Final Verdict: MegaCity is solid city-building puzzle game and a fun way to waste some time. I'd buy that for a dollar!
