Alawishus Pixel (XBLIG, 2010)

Alawishus Pixel
Developed by Frog The Door Games
Released for XBLIG (6/2010)

Alawishus Pixel is a retro-inspired 2D platformer-puzzler. This review features impressions from the trial version of the game. The full game features 40 levels, each of which is featured on a single screen. There's a box that needs to be pushed into a hole, which in turn will open up the door to the next stage. The block gets progressively more difficult to get to the hole with each stage adding more obstacles and enemies in your path. The screens wrap around so if you go off to the edge on the right you'll pop back up on the other side. Your character moves a bit slow, but you can hold the X button for a little speed boost. You have no means of attack (in the trial at least) and must simply dodge the enemies while navigating the stages. The game plays pretty well, the pixel graphics look nice and the chip-tune music helps complete the retro feel. If you're a fan of platformer-puzzle games, Alawishus Pixel could have been a dollar well spent! Unfortunately the game would only see a release on XBLIG therefore is unavailable to play anymore. The developer would later go on to develop another retro-style game called Vintage Hero which would see a release on XBLIG and PC.

Final Verdict: Alawishus Pixel is a simple 2D platformer-puzzle game that can provide a couple hours of good fun for a buck.
